There may be a hole in Labor's claim it will save $50 billion from scrapping the company tax rate cuts to big business after Opposition leader Bill Shorten said he would keep part of the package.

Labor has promised it will save the full $50 billion cost of the Coalition's tax cuts.

But during a press conference in Melbourne Mr Shorten committed to keeping the small business part of the package, without providing information on how much that would cost over 10 years.

"The component which is the tax cut for the very small companies is a tiny proportion of that $50 billion," Mr Shorten told reporters.
