Labor defers debate on Manus, Nauru

The Labor caucus has put off a vote on a motion calling for an end to immigration detention centres on Nauru and Manus Island.

The motion was to be moved by West Australian Labor MP Melissa Parke at Tuesday's meeting but was deferred until November 10 because senators were not available for the debate.

Ms Parke says conditions at the two offshore centres have deteriorated over the past 16 months and if human rights standards and oversight can't be improved, they should be shut down.
