Labor housing promise "crap": Treasurer

Treasurer Scott Morrison has labelled Labor's answer to housing affordability - limiting tax breaks for property investors - as "crap".

The opposition wants negative gearing restricted to new homes, a move Mr Morrison said was a sledgehammer approach.

"It's a cruel promise they're making, they say you make that change and everyone can buy a house - well that's crap," he told ABC Radio on Thursday.
