Labor calls for Nauru, Manus transparency

Federal Labor has renewed calls for transparency at Australia's offshore immigration detention centres amid reports of rape and sexual assaults.

While reiterating opposition support for offshore detention, immigration spokesman Richard Marles says Australians must be better informed about the treatment of asylum seekers detained on Nauru and Manus Island.

"We just need to have much greater transparency so that we know exactly what is occurring in Nauru, so that people can have a sense of confidence about the safety of asylum seekers," he told ABC TV.
