Perth commuters brought to a standstill as mass traffic jam caused by wet concrete
A rectangle the size of a small car brought Perth's commute to a crippling stand-still this morning.
A section of wet cement from overnight roadworks refused to dry in time for the morning traffic, closing lanes on the Kwinana Freeway for hours and banking up traffic for more than 6km.
WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said concrete was poured over unexpected cracks in some drainage underneath the road.

"But it didn't set in time," she said.
The slab of concrete has since dried, but overnight roadworks will resume on the Kwinana Freeway from 10pm.
The freeway is scheduled to reopen at 5am tomorrow.

After the initial congestion, a woman died in a three-car crash on the same freeway.
The victim in her 40s was taken to hospital with critical injuries just after 9am but did not survive.
