Koala drops in on Victorian homeowners

A koala has paid a surprise visit to an unsuspecting couple in Victoria’s south-west.

Video obtained by 9NEWS shows the cheeky marsupial hanging behind the back door of the Portland property on Friday night.

“When this meets you at your backdoor after work,” homeowner Alice Peek shared to Facebook.

The koala “hung around” for a few hours, making Ms Peek’s entry to the residence a wilder than usual experience.

Another clip showed the critter trying to interact with the family's dog, but it appeared the pooch wasn't all that interested. 

Numbers of koalas have soared in Portland over the past few years, ABC News reported.

It is estimated that the region is home to at least a quarter of the country’s total population of the species.
