Knifepoint carjacker led police on multiple pursuits from Campbelltown to Nowra

A 27-year-old man will face court today after a wild spate of carjackings that stretched for nearly 160 kilometres in Sydney’s south yesterday.

Police from Campbelltown Police Area Command attempted to stop a stolen Nissan Pulsar in Airds, 56 kilometres south-west of Sydney, shortly after midday.

When the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, police initiated a pursuit which was later called off due to safety concerns.

Just 45 minutes later, in a shopping centre approximately 55 kilometres south of Airds, a Toyota Corolla was stolen at knifepoint from a shopping centre in Figtree allegedly by the same man.

He then drove the second stolen vehicle to Osbourne Street in Wollongong, where it stopped alongside a Nissan Pulsar.

A 55-year-old woman was assisting a 90-year-old woman out of the Pulsar when she was allegedly threatened by the man with a knife.

The man then took control of the Pulsar and drove from the scene.

Two hours later at 3pm, a woman was robbed of her Hyundai Kona at knifepoint from a service station in South Nowra.

Police officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command commenced a pursuit of the Kona on the Princes Highway, during which the man allegedly threw a fire extinguisher from the vehicle at police.

He was successfully arrested a short time later and was taken to Nowra Police station where he was charged with multiple offences including using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

The 27-year-old man was refused bail and will appear at Nowra Local court today.
