King George statue beheaded and vandalised with red paint in Melbourne
A 72-year-old King George monument was beheaded and vandalised in Melbourne.
Police were called to the King George statue in Kings Domain on Linlithgow Avenue after receiving reports of damage about 9am today - on the King's Birthday public holiday.
Video footage of vandals cutting the head from the statue has been shared on social media.

The video also shows a group covering the entire monument in red paint before spraypainting the words "the colony will fall".
Earlier this year, two colonial monuments were vandalised in St Kilda.
The Captain Cook sculpture was sawn off at the ankles and left on the ground with a noose around his neck, while the Queen Victoria monument was splattered with red paint.
