Kings Cross Coke sign lights up once more

Sydney’s Kings Cross Coke sign has once again been lit up, more than two years after the city’s most famous billboard was turned off.

This time, though, there’s a difference – it’s now the largest controllable neon sign in the southern hemisphere.

The restored sign was lit up at 6.30 last night in its red and white glory, with the city treated to a sneak peek of its new changeable colour scheme.

The new colours won’t be shown every night though, only for special occasions such as Vivid.

The Coke sign was installed in 1974 and the original letters were auctioned off on eBay, raising more than $100,000 for The Wayside Chapel.
