Man charged with home-made taser possession pleads not guilty

A man facing weapons possession charges has pleaded not guilty in court today, following anti-terror raids carried out across Sydney in late July.

Khaled Merhi, 39, appeared before Downing Centre Local Court accused of possessing a home-made taser, which police will allege was found inside his Surry Hills home when it was searched following his arrest.

Merhi was represented by a lawyer during his brief appearance.

He and three other men were arrested in dramatic raids conducted by NSW and Federal Police.

Police will allege the other men arrested were planning to place a bomb onboard an aeroplane departing Sydney International Airport.

During the hearing, the court agreed to alter Merhi's bail conditions, allowing him to report just once a week to police, and softening his curfew to between 10pm and 6am daily.

The case returns to court on October 5.
