Four-year-old girl flown to hospital after a dingo attack on K'gari

A four-year-old girl has been flown to hospital following a dingo attack on K'gari.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said a large group, including eight children, were fishing near NgKala Rocks on the eastern side of the island when nearby dingoes approached the girl just before 11.15am today.

The dingo bit her chest area and also left her with scratches and bruising.

"A nearby doctor examined the child and rangers advised the family to meet with paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service as a precaution," the department said.

Paramedics assessed the girl before flying her to Hervey Bay Hospital in stable condition.

As a result, rangers are now monitoring a male dingo responsible for the attack.

Queensland rangers advise visitors to be dingo safe by travelling in groups, keeping children close, carrying a safety stick and maintaining their distance from dingoes.

Anyone who witnesses or experiences a dingo circling, lunging, nipping, biting, chasing or tearing tents and stealing property is urged to report the incident to a nearby ranger or call (07) 4127 9150.
