After almost a month of campaigning, the prime minister is receiving most attention on social media.

According to Meltwater analysis of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogs, people were talking about Malcolm Turnbull around three times as much as Bill Shorten over the month of May.

But Labor was receiving more attention than the Liberal party over the same period.

Some of the most common trending themes across election conversations were the NBN (National Broadband Network), AFP, tax and CFMEU.

Facebook statistics also show that the demographics most discussing the election on the site have shifted since the first week of campaigning, with women turning to Facebook to discuss politics more than men.

Women aged 25-64 took up four of the five most active demographics discussing the election in the third week of campaigning and a recent Newspoll found that 30 per cent of women were undecided on their preferred leader.

Social issues were the most talked about election issue for both men and women, although men talked equally as much about the economy.

Facebook users from key electoral seats were the most involved on the site in the third week of the campaign.

Four of the most engaged electorates were marginal, including the bellwether seat of Eden-Monaro.

But users appear to be ignoring the coalition's "jobs and growth" slogan, most mentioning Mr Turnbull with the words Barack Obama and national security since May 4.

The ABC leaders debate got Twitter users talking about the election more than they have all campaign.
