NRL player disqualified from driving

Former Parramatta Eels player Kenny Edwards has been disqualified from driving for six months after he was pulled over while suspended.

The 29-year-old, who is currently signed with French Super League side the Catalans Dragons, has only ever held a learner driver’s licence and has more than a dozen traffic infringements dating back almost 10 years.

Edwards licence has been suspended 10 times - four of which have been for not paying speeding fines.

In another incident, police pulled the NRL player over on Sherwood Road, Merrylands where they found Edwards had exited the parked vehicle and was walking into a hotel.

“You did the right thing in May 2008 and got yourself a learner’s licence, but after that you decided applying the traffic laws was not part of your game plan, to use that expression,” Magistrate Roger Prowse said.

The judge took into account Edwards’ lengthy record of traffic offences including driving without a fully licenced person in the car, parking in disabled spaces, speeding in school zones and failing to pay a number of infringements when delivering his sentence.

Edwards will not be allowed behind the wheel for six months and has also been fined $600.

Magistrate Prowse warned Edwards if he continued to disobey the road rules he would face jail time next time he was caught.
