Keenan says abuse redress up to cabinet

Justice Minister Michael Keenan says a decision on a redress scheme for abuse victims is up to cabinet.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has committed Labor in government to rolling out a scheme in response to the royal commission, with payments of up to $200,000 per victim.

"That would be a decision for cabinet to take - I don't think it would be helpful for me to weigh in as an individual," Mr Keenan told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
