Karl Stefanovic's big day of pregnancy

In an effort to better understand the burden of pregnancy Today host Karl Stefanovic donned an "Empathy Belly" and spent a few hours getting firsthand experience as an expecting mother.

After ribbing co-host Wendy Kingston about her pregnancy, the women on the show decided it was high time for Karl to try and live a day in the life of a pregnant woman at full-term.

In his motherly experience, Karl discovered there is more to pregnancy than carrying a few extra kilos as the weight pressed down on his bladder, forcing him to answer the call of nature more often — much like a pregnant woman.

"You just have to go to the toilet all the time because of that weight on the bladder," Karl said before ducking into the ladies bathroom.

"It's just the constant pressure on other parts of the body, if you know what I mean," Karl said.

"Oh yeah, I know what you mean," said Wendy, knowing all too well about Karl's day of tribulations.

"That, to me, would be the most difficult thing about pregnancy, not thinking too heavily about what's to come after," Karl said.

Luckily for him he won't ever have to give birth, but he did go a bit baby-brained struggling up and down stairs in Sydney’s "heatwave conditions".

"That's starting to get more difficult," an out-of-breath Karl said after climbing a few flights of stairs.

"It's almost unbearable, walking out onto hot roads and getting into a car."
