Belt bashing at karaoke club leaves victim needing surgery

Callum Skinner is barely recognizable after a vicious assault at an Adelaide karaoke bar left him in need of reconstructive surgery.

He was bashed with a belt at Rock On Club and Karaoke in Hindley Street last September.

Yushuai Wu, 27, and Tien Pham, 24, have both pleaded guilty to the violent assault.

CCTV obtained by 9NEWS shows Wu and Pham walking up the stairs to the club.

But Wu today denied he deliberately used the Louis Vuitton belt as a weapon, claiming he had to hold it because the buckle had broken.

Wu also claims the victim made a racist remark towards him and assaulted a woman he was with.

But the prosecution disputes that - and will call on Wu and two witnesses to testify at the next hearing.

Prosecutors have called for immediate jail, as a strong message against drunken violence.
