Kangaroo curls up by man's heater in Victoria

Wildlife are feeling the winter chill this week - with this kangaroo taking the opportunity to lay in front of a heater in a rural Victorian home.

But it was no surprise for the home's owner, Dean Saxby when the kangaroo, called King Billy hopped in to warm up.

He has been living in the Maramingo Creek, Genoa area for 15 years, ever since Mr Saxby hand raised him as an orphan.

The roo often goes to visit him.

And once the heater comes out in Mr Saxby's caravan, he's not far away.

"Over summer I put the heater away- basically as soon as he sees the heater come out of hibernation he starts hanging around a bit more," Mr Saxby told 9News.

"He just adores the heater."

Mr Saxby said King Billy even gets his attention when he wants to leave if he's gone to bed, by bashing his paws on the bedroom door.

The cheeky kangaroo will even launch himself onto the bed and pull the covers off him.

However, if Mr Saxby sees him out in the bush, he will ignore him.

"He hops away. Once he comes inside it's a different story," he said.

"I can scratch him and he's fine."

Mr Saxby also feeds him special macropod pellets.
