Kangaroo shot with arrow at NSW park

A NSW animal rescue group has called for tighter regulations around the sale of bow and arrows after a kangaroo was shot in the head.

WIRES volunteers were called to the Durras Lake North Holiday Park at Batemans Bay on Friday where an eastern grey kangaroo was spotted with an arrow through its head.

Volunteers are searching the area on the south coast after the joey hopped away with its mother into the Murramarang National Park.

WIRES spokeswoman Justin McKee said the kangaroo was part of a group that regularly fed in the caravan park grounds.

"This is another victim of reckless behaviour towards animals in NSW," he said.

Mr McKee said current regulations in NSW were not working.

"We need to tighten regulations around the sale of bows and arrows and how they are stored at a very minimum."
