Kangaroo rescued from Murray River floodwaters

A kangaroo has been pulled to safety from the flooded Murray River at Tocumwal, near the Victorian-New South Wales border.

The kangaroo got trapped under a boat ramp in the Riverina town just after midday today.

Video showed the marsupial paddling under in the ramp, before it helped from the water by two locals.

It is understood the lucky animal will be returned back to bushland this afternoon.  

Yesterday, tourists were ordered to evacuate Ulupna Island after floodwater from the Murray spilled over a levee. 

The popular holiday spot remains inaccessible. 

Moderate flood warnings remain for the river downstream of Lake Hume to Bundalong, the State Emergency Service advised.
