A federal government agency is looking at using sporting shooters to cull feral cats in Northern Territory's Kakadu National Park.

Director of National Parks Sally Barnes said the Kakadu board was keen to use recreational shooters as part of its cat management project and was undertaking preliminary talks.

Ms Barnes said she was happy for sporting shooters to operate in the national parks as long as it was well controlled and safety was taken into consideration.
