Joy as polar bear watches her newborn cub open her eyes

A polar bear mum has shared a life-changing moment with her newborn cub inside a German zoo.

Video shows Tonja lovingly mouthing and cradling her baby as it opens its eyes for the first time at Tierpark Berlin.

The mother can also be seen licking her cub’s scruff as she crawls up her arm.

The newborn is currently unnamed, and she and Tonja will remain away from public view until the arrival of Spring in March.

Tonja and mating partner Wolodja were both born at Moskow Zoo in 2009.
