Treasurer Joe Hockey will find out today if he has been successful in seeking substantial damages from Fairfax Media for a story he says falsely implied he was corrupt.

A judgment is due to be handed down in the Federal Court over a story headlined "Treasurer for sale", which Mr Hockey claims was part of a relentless attack that left him devastated.

During a six-day hearing in March, Mr Hockey said his reputation was damaged by imputations he accepted bribes and corruptly sold privileged access to a select group of Liberal Party donors.

Lawyers for Fairfax argued during the 2014 story about political fundraising organisation North Sydney Forum was reasonable and did not imply corruption.

The judgment is due to be handed down this afternoon.
