Job network faces Senate scrutiny

The federal government's new jobs program will come under the spotlight at a Senate hearing.

Employment Minister Eric Abetz and his departmental officials will face questions on Friday about the $5 billion jobs network, Jobactive, at an estimates committee hearing in Canberra.

The rebadged network was launched last week, with 66 organisations to provide services from July 1 this year.

Labor and the Greens have queried whether paying agencies to place people in jobs lasting as little as four weeks will solve long-term unemployment.

The estimates hearing will also look at workers compensation and employee assistance programs.
