Jimmy Kimmel's audience got to see a lot more of the talk show host when he had his first colonoscopy.

In a bid to raise awareness for colon cancer, Kimmel invited Katie Couric and the cameras in to watch him undergo the procedure, which aired on Tuesday's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

“You’re about to watch a camera go where no camera has ever gone before,” said Kimmel, who was prompted to take the test after turning 50 in November.

As it was to be expected, Kimmel gave plenty of gags and laughs along the way to lighten the serious nature of the procedure.

The exam found no sign of polyps, but Couric joked with Kimmel that keys, toy soldiers and a harmonica were recovered.

She also thanked the comedian for “donating his ass to awareness.”

Couric, whose first husband died of colon cancer in 1998, said she felt a “responsibility to inform people about this test because it’s the second leading cancer killer of men and women combined” in the United States.

It’s estimated there will be more than 17,000 new cases of colon cancer in Australia in this year alone.

March is colon cancer awareness month.
