Jim Molan sworn in as new Liberal senator

Retired major-general Jim Molan has officially taken his place on the Senate's red benches as a new Liberal senator, replacing former Nationals deputy leader Fiona Nash.
Senator Molan has filled the vacancy left by Senator Nash after she lost her NSW seat when she was ruled to be ineligible due to holding British citizenship.
His appointment, along with the Liberals' recruitment of SA senator Lucy Gichuhi, restores the government's numbers to 30 in the upper house - the same number they had after the 2016 election.
