Jarryd Hayne denies NFL offer

Jarryd Hayne has denied he has been offered a train and trial deal by the Detroit Lions after a personal endorsement from the NFL franchise’s star running back, Reggie Bush.

The Lions were one of six NFL franchises chasing the former NRL star, according to reports yesterday.

Bush met Hayne during his recent promotional tour to Australia over the State of Origin series where he said that the star fullback was capable of playing in the NFL.

“He actually looks like an NFL running back,’’ Bush said.

“Looks like he could come play with us tomorrow.

“He’s fast, strong and ... wow. Look at that hit. That’s an NFL football hit. I like this guy.”

The growing relationship between the former NRL star and Bush reportedly led to the Detroit Lions sending an email offer to Hayne’s agent Wayne Beavis.

But when Hayne jetted out of Australia last night, bound for the United States, he denied an offer had been made or that an NFL franchise had even made contact with him.

NFL champions Seattle Seahawks, who Hayne visited recently, are believed to be one of the other franchises interested in the star fullback.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll described Hayne as “an incredible athlete”, but it was later revealed that he did not know who the former NRL star was.
