NRL star Jack de Belin hit with two additional rape charges

Two more charges have been laid against NRL player Jack De Belin over the alleged rape of a woman in a Wollongong unit.

The St George Illawarra Dragons' player sat in the gallery of Wollongong Local Court as the offences of aggravated sexual assault in company were discussed this morning.

It's understood all three charges relate to the same 19-year-old he is accused of raping in the company of Callan Sinclair, in the early hours of December 9 last year.

De Belin, 28, did not comment as he walked in and out of court with his lawyer.

It's another blow for the lock who lost his fight against the NRL's no fault stand down rule in the Federal Court earlier this month.

Justice Melissa Perry found the league was addressing a "clear and present danger" when it imposed the new no fault stand down policy.

She said it was a rule which was "no more than reasonably necessary or adequate to protect" the game.

At the time he released a statement in which he said he was disappointed.

"I am innocent and I will continue to vigorously defend the single charge made against me.

"Professional rugby league careers are short lived, I have worked hard to build my career and I have now been stood down at the height of it, without any certainty around the timeframe to return."

He is facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines with no trial date yet.

Sinclair is yet to enter a plea to his two charges. 

Their cases return to court in July.
