It's been a very wet winter

If you felt a bit "when it rains it pours" these past few months, it may be no surprise that Australians have endured the second-wettest winter on record.

And they've also copped the fourth-warmest minimum winter temperatures.

It could be thanks to a breakdown of strong El Nino events, when higher than average rainfall often occurs.

The latest official drought statement shows well above average rainfall across the country in the chilly months, 82 per cent above average for the season.

The Bureau of Meteorology also found individual winter months were very warm, with several records set at various locations across the country as well as overnight temperatures.

The rainfall has been a boon for farmers in drought-hit parts of Queensland and northern NSW.

Soil moisture is above average in most regions.
