Arsonists have set fire to a school bus belonging to an Islamic college in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.

The bus was parked outside the driver's Matheson Road home when it was engulfed in flames just before midnight.

"I quickly got some shorts on, got the hose, two hoses on and just dragged it and put the fire out," driver Errol Koch said.

"It was a random attack. This is a very quiet area, it's very quiet," he said.

As detectives were called in to investigate the incident, Koch used another school bus to get students to the college for the day.
