Chef slashed by teenager in ‘attempted armed robbery’

A chef is in hospital after being injured in a scuffle with a teenage boy who allegedly attempted to rob a restaurant in Ipswich yesterday.

CCTV shows the boy wandering near Indian restaurant Bollywood Flavour on Alawoona Street just after 7pm before allegedly storming the business.

Waitress Puneet Bajwa initially mistook the 16-year-old for a customer, but then realised he was armed with a knife.

Her husband Guranditta Bajwa wrestled with the boy, suffering lacerations to his arm and hand.

Locals helped him restrain the boy until police arrived.

Mr Bajwa remains in hospital. It is unclear when he will be released.

"It's hard, like how we can survive, I don't know how long my husband is gonna stay in the hospital," Mrs Bajwa said.

Neighbouring shops are rallying around the family, and have started a fundraiser.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted armed robbery.
