Investigation under way after pedestrian killed in Adelaide

An investigation is under way following the death of a 53-year-old woman who was hit by a car while crossing the road on Friday morning. 

The woman was struck just before 6am on Glynburn Road in the suburb of Tranmere, metres from a set of traffic lights and near a pedestrian safety zone in the median strip. 

CCTV footage shows the woman walking through a car park before attempting to cross the road in dark and rainy conditions.

One car passed by, but she was struck by a second – a Honda sedan driven by a 21-year-old man from Hectorville, who had a passenger in the car.

Paramedics arrived at the scene within minutes, but were unable to revive the woman. 

Major crash investigators spent several hours examining the scene. 

A man who said he was a friend of the driver stopped at the scene, telling 9News the driver had hit the brakes when he spotted the woman crossing in front of him, but hadn't been able to stop in time.

Residents have raised safety concerns about crossing Glynburn Road.

"It is quite scary cause there's lots of cars coming in and out of the car park of the side street's blind spots," one local said.

Police are examining all contributing factors to determine if any party was at fault. The investigation is ongoing.
