Carnival worker charged after smashing competition pumpkins

A carnival worker has been charged after he was found sleeping in destroyed produce submitted for a Northern NSW show competition.
Members of the Inverell Show Society arrived at the Tingha Road showground just after 7am today where they found the exhibition hall doors were already open.
When they entered the hall, they found pumpkin and other vegetable produce - intended for the competition display – smashed, smeared across the walls and partially eaten.
Police allege a man was found asleep at the location, surrounded by the smashed produce.
The 25-year-old awoke and left the location before being arrested at a nearby toilet block.
He was charged with break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.
The man appeared at Inverell Local Court today and pleaded guilty.
He was given a nine-month Intensive Corrections Order and the Inverell Show is expected to open as planned tomorrow.
