The federal government is urging organisations and religious orders to sign up to the national redress scheme for people who experienced child sexual abuse in institutions, with hundreds yet to join.

Minister for Families and Social Services Paul Fletcher says many abuse survivors are waiting for organisations to sign up to the scheme so they can access the support and acknowledgement owed to them.

A further 10 organisations - including six Anglican institutions and Geelong Grammar School - have joined the scheme, Mr Fletcher said on Thursday.
