Injured Queensland police officer Peter McAulay showing ‘slight improvement’

A police officer hit and dragged by an allegedly stolen car at Booval west of Brisbane last week is showing “slight signs of improvement” but remains in a critical condition.

Constable Peter McAulay was setting up road spikes in an attempt to intercept the car when he was struck in the early hours of Thursday morning.

He underwent emergency surgery and was placed in an induced coma at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

In a statement, Queensland police today said Const McAulay was showing “positive signs” but remained sedated.

“It is our sincere hope his condition improves,” it said.

“At the moment, the focus of family, friends and colleagues is on Peter and his ongoing treatment for his very serious injuries.”

Const McAulay’s family is by his side, and grateful for the outpouring of support.

A 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl were charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

They faced the Queensland Children’s Court on Friday and have been remanded in custody to appear again in November.
