Impersonate police charge after robbery

A man has been charged with impersonating a police officer following the assault and robbery of another man in Sydney's southwest.

Police say that just before midnight on November 30 last year, a 43-year-old man was driving in Lakemba when he was followed by a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights on the dash.

The man pulled into a driveway and the other car parked behind.

It's alleged two men claiming to be detectives approached the 43-year-old who was then assaulted and robbed of his wallet and other personal items.

The offenders then left, with a third man possibly driving the car.

At about 7pm on Wednesday, a 19-year-old man was arrested at Bankstown and charged with robbery in company and impersonating a police officer.

He was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
