New IKEA store format to open on Sydney's Northern Beaches

A new IKEA store will be opening in Sydney's Northern Beaches but shoppers won't be able to pick up their iconic Swedish meatballs on the way out.

The store will be in the format of a "plan and order point", meaning customers will be able to get advice for kitchens and wardrobes in the shop and have the ability to order anything from the full IKEA range.

It will be located at the HomeCo shopping centre in Belrose and is due to open in June.

Market area manager Johanna Gbenplay said the format opened up a new opportunity for customers.

"This is a key part of our growth strategy for IKEA in Australia," Gbenplay said.

"We already have a strong presence with three IKEA stores in Sydney, but we will now be on the doorstep of the many people of the Northern Beaches area, who we know are avid home furnishers and renovators but may have not considered IKEA as close or convenient for them previously."

She said they had learnt valuable lessons from the first opening of a store with this format at Highpoint in Melbourne.
