'Extremely satisfying': Police seize $20m worth of ice from Melbourne home

A massive 40kg of ice, worth an estimated $20 million, has been seized from a Melbourne home after police tracked the drugs as they were imported from the US.

Police pounced on a Doncaster East home, in Melbourne's north east, after the parcel of drugs was collected and taken there on Monday night.

They arrested three men, a 24-year-old Glen Waverley man, a 36-year-old Doncaster man and a 20-year-old Bundoora man, who have since been charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs.

In the three vehicles the men were travelling in, police allegedly found a firearm, more than three kilograms of ice, drug paraphernalia including scales, knuckle dusters, tools, passports radio equipment and mobile phones.

The three men all faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where they were remanded into custody.

Victoria Police Detective Inspector Craig Darlow said the men faced "substantial penalties" if they were convicted of the crimes.

He said seizing the drugs and making three arrests was "extremely satisfying".

“The drugs seized equate to hundreds of thousands of hits and by intercepting them we’ve been able to limit the impact they have locally,” Inspector Darlow said.

The arrests were part of a four-month investigation into the importation of drugs into Melbourne from the US and involved officers from the Australian Federal Police, Australian Border Force and Victoria Police.
