While Australia swelters in the summer heat, residents of the American state of New Hampshire are beating the winter blues by taking a tour through a magical ‘Ice Castle’.

The acre-sized fairy tale structure is returning to the town of Lincoln for its second year this January, following an unseasonably warm Christmas season.

The Ice Castle is a real life winter wonderland, with tunnels, towers and other features illuminated with multi-coloured LED lights, turning an otherwise unremarkable ice cave into a palace reminiscent of Disney’s ‘Frozen’.

The entire structure begins as just one icicle, with a team of 10 to 20 people crafting the magnificent castle.

With temperatures in New Hampshire hovering at -12 degrees, the Ice Castle is not expected to melt for some months yet.

Ice Castles are also available for tour in Utah, Minnesota and Canada.
