ICAC investigates RailCorp official
The NSW corruption watchdog has announced a public inquiry into the financial dealings of a former RailCorp manager and his sister.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will investigate allegations against Joseph Camilleri, a former RailCorp general manager of maintenance contracts, and his sister, Carmen Attard, an employee at the Department of Family and Community Services (DFACS).
The hearing will probe whether the siblings used their positions to corruptly solicit more than $1.6 million from other public officials and government contractors.
It is alleged that from early 2012, Mr Camilleri requested $1.5 million in loans from about 50 people who were either RailCorp employees or directly involved in tenders for RailCorp contracts.
He allegedly gave the money to his daughter.
Ms Attard is alleged to have solicited more than $140,000 from 10 of her colleagues at DFACS for Mr Camilleri's daughter.
The public inquiry will begin on February 17 before ICAC's new commissioner Megan Latham.
