Thousands of visitors turned away from NSW beach with 'world's whitest sand'

Drivers have been turned away from the New South Wales beach with the world's whitest sand over its booming popularity.

Shoalhaven City Council has appointed traffic controllers to redirect visitors from Hyams Beach in Jervis Bay, given its parking capacity is 400 but up to 5000 vehicles are around each day during peak season.

The council is currently brainstorming solutions with residents on the best way to deal with the congestion.

One resident at a council meeting last month said "we are loving Hyams Beach to death" as ideas were raised including a shuttle bus service, parking meters or alternative car parks out of the town with walking tracks.
