The federal Labor seat of Hunter is to be abolished under a draft redistribution of NSW electoral boundaries.

The state will have one less seat in the House of Representatives after the next election, likely in late 2016, reducing its representation to 47 MPs.

Hunter is held by Labor frontbencher Joe Fitzgibbon.
