The remains of a woman who went missing from Karratha during a category two tropical cyclone three years ago have been found about 45km south of the Pilbara town.

Tracey Margaret Marshall, 35, went missing from the Nickol Bay Hospital on February 21, 2011.

Within a day of her disappearance, a red alert for tropical cyclone Carlos was issued and the category two system passed over the area, with the all-clear declared on February 24.

That day, Ms Marshall's car was found abandoned about 45km south of Karratha on the Karratha/Tom Price Road, sparking an immediate land search, but she was not found.

On February 14 last year, the West Australian Coroner made a finding that she was deceased.

WA Police confirmed on Thursday that human remains were discovered last month below a transmission line pylon near where Ms Marshall's car was found abandoned three years ago.

The remains have since been positively identified as Ms Marshall and her family has been notified.
