Police divers will return to a popular Far North Queensland tourist spot today after a suspected human bone was discovered there.

The remains were found by a tourist at Mossman Gorge, 20km north of Port Douglas, last week.

The discovery was made months after a 54-year-old woman went missing from the Mossman River in January.

Police said today forensic experts are continuing testing of the bone.

"Divers will return to the site today for further examination of the area," a police spokesperson said.

"Forensic procedures and investigations are ongoing to establish the origin of the remains."

Mossman Gorge, in the state's Daintree National Park, will remain open to the public.

Police investigations are continuing.
