As the founder of the world's most recognisable men's magazine, Hugh Hefner had a long and varied history with members of the opposite sex.

Hefner became infamous for bedding many gorgeous women, some of whom adorned the famous Playboy pages.

From his first wife to his last, here are the ladies in Hefner's life:

Mildred Williams

In what would prove to be the first of many, MANY women in Hef's life, he married Mildred Williams in 1949.

Millie cheated on Hef while he spent time in the military, making her so guilty she allowed the playboy to have extramarital affairs.

In what seemed like a doomed relationship from the start, the pair divorced in 1959.

Kimberley Conrad

Conrad was a previous Playmate of the Year and, despite being 36 years apart, she married Hefner in 1989.

After nine years of marriage they separated. Their divorce was finalised in 2010.

Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt

Renowned for having several girlfriends on the go at one time, Hefner was going out with all three ladies between 2004 and 2008.

Together they were the original stars of The Girls Next Door, a reality show following the daily lives of the ladies and Hef.

Kristina Shannon

She and twin Karissa were members of another four-way relationship with Hef between 2008 and 2010.

Another woman not far from controversy, Kristina was involved in sex tapes with a handful of other D-grade celebrities.

Jenna Bentley

This buxom blonde reportedly had a dalliance with Hef in 2009.

She made news recently for asking the internet whether she should have a breast reduction.

Anna Sophia Berglund

Made the official list of Hef's numerous girlfriends in the playboy's later years.

Making the most of her time in the limelight, Berglund has since made appearances in shows like Desperate Housewives and Hannah Montana.

Barbi Benton

She was Hef's first girlfriend after he divorced his first Millie Williams.

She graced the cover of Playboy four times and is believed to have been the one who discovered the Playboy Mansion.

Shannon Tweed

The Canadian actress and model is one of the most successful performers in mainstream erotica and hooked up with Hef from 1981 to 1983.

She is now happily married to KISS frontman Gene Simmons.

Lana Kinnear

Proving that Hef certainly had a type, wrestler, model and actor Lana Kinnear was rumoured to have gotten together with Hef from 2002 to 2004.

Kinnear has worked with the WWE and appeared in Hollywood movies like Austin Powers.

Crystal Harris

Harris was meant to marry Hef in 2011, but pulled the pin at the last minute.

She featured on the cover of Playboy in the month the pair were meant to wed, with the publisher forced to place a 'Runaway bride' sticker on the magazine once it had hit stands.
