One dead, houses destroyed in Vic and SA fires

Bushfires raging across Victoria and South Australia have claimed one life and destroyed properties, with authorities warning more people are at risk.

In the Grampions in western Victoria, a wind change caused havoc for firefighters battling a large blaze that has killed one person.

The southerly change brought wind gusts of up to 120km/h.

Meanwhile, two homes have been destroyed in the Adelaide Hills and more are under threat, authorities warn.

The Country Fire Service said a blaze in Eden Valley has so far burnt two houses and razed 2500 hectares, AAP reports.

Authorities are warning residents in the area that more homes are under threat and the fire is still building in strength.

Fire fighters are tackling the blaze with ground crews, two helicopter water bombers, two fixed wing aircraft and an aircrane.

Authorities have also issued a warning about a major fire burning at Owen, north of Adelaide, with reports more properties are at risk there.

Other fires of concern are burning near Port Germein and in Ngarkat national park.

A cool change is expected to bring thunderstorms but firefighters fear more blazes will be sparked by lightning.
