A house for rent in Sydney that appears to have a toilet connected to water by a hose is being slammed online as "disgusting".

The home in Auburn in the city's west is up for rent at $750 a week, with the ad claiming it has been "fully renovated".

The advert boasts that the home has three bedrooms, a lounge and dining area, a "good" kitchen with gas cooking, one bathroom plus laundry and "one separated toilet".

"The toilet is connected via a hose from the sink. The kitchen is nightmare fuel, and the laundry looks like you're gonna get live-ins," a post in the sh-trentals subreddit said. Domain

It also has a private yard, and a granny flat which is "not included".

And it might claim to be renovated, but the photos tell a different story, as the city's housing crisis continues.

The kitchen photos shows crumbling cabinets, an ancient floor and a cooker which appears to be rusting away.

"Imagine what the rooms they didn't show look like," one commenter said.

"Oh my gosh that should be illegal to advertise! How is that a place someone can live in!?" another said.

"Trying to decide which bathroom is better - this one with the hose or the one which looks like a grenade has gone off in it," another said.

Some commenters said they had reported the listing.

Last month research said Sydney could become known as a grandchild-less city if the housing crisis is not addressed now.

Meanwhile, Australia's rental prices have reached a new record high, breaking through the $600-a-week barrier for the first time.
