Alleged fight over missing dog leaves one man in hosital and the other charged

A fight between two men over a missing dog has left one of them in hospital and the other charged with assault.

Police were called to a service station on Broadwater Avenue at Hope Island on the Gold Coast at 2am.

Officers said a 55-year-old man from Illawong and a 33-year-old man from Warabrook had been at a tavern when they walked to Halcyon Way and a fight erupted.

The 55-year-old man was injured before he walked to a nearby service station and emergency services were called.

He was treated for serious injuries to his face before he was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition for surgery.

Later this morning, police arrested the suspect at a nearby home.

The 33-year-old man was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today.
