More than 50,000 Hondas recalled over faulty fuel pump

A recall has been issued for more than 50,000 Hondas sold in Australia over four years due to faulty fuel pumps.

A huge range of the Japanese manufacturer's models sold between 2017 and 2020 – all variants of the Odyssey, Accord, City, Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Jazz, Civic Type R, and NSX – are affected.

The total number of cars recalled is 52,051.

According to the Australian government's vehicle recalls department, the fuel pumps in the affected cars weren't manufactured properly, and have a component that could swell and make the entire part inoperable.

"If the fuel pump stops working, this could stop the engine from starting or stall the engine while driving," it said.

"This may increase the risk of an accident and may result in serious injury to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.

"The hazard posed to consumers from this safety defect includes the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death."

Owners of the impacted cars have been told to take their vehicle to a Honda service centre for repairs.
