Homes threatened in Queensland bushfire

Residents in an area north of Brisbane have been told to protect their homes as fire crews battle to control a blaze.

Sixteen fire trucks, council fire management staff and Queensland park rangers are tackling the large bushfire in the Cashmere area, north west of the city.

Large plumes of smoke can be seen for kilometres as the fire spreads eastwards towards several homes.

“Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by,” said the Queensland Fire Service in a statement.

“Residents who are concerned their home is under threat should call triple zero immediately.”
