Man in hospital after alleged home invasion on Gold Coast

A Gold Coast man is in hospital after coming face to face with a knife-wielding intruder.

His housemate who was inside when three men stormed their property in Arundel said it was a "scary" attack.

John Barry said he woke to one of his housemates screaming about 4am.

"[I] Went downstairs, and came face to face with a machete basically. This guy had a full balaclava, black on black, just brandishes that," he said.

At least one of the men was wielding a knife and entered a bedroom and attacked the 25-year-old man who was asleep inside.

Police searched the street for the trio but they'd already fled in a getaway car.

The victim was taken to Gold Coast University hospital with injuries to his hand and arm.

Detectives are combing through the crime scene, still piecing together how the intruders got inside.

The men are still on the run.
